Weekend Crime Sees Decrease From Previous Week

Over the weekend law enforcement agencies serving the Santa Clarita Valley saw a decrease in arrests with 24 compared to last week’s 31.

Although the total number of arrests went down, the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and California Highway Patrol Newhall Office top reason for arrests was still drug- or alcohol-related offenses.

There were a total of 15 people who were arrested for drug or alcohol-related offenses this week, with DUIs being the top reason at 9.

The other offenses were for being under the influence of a substance, possession of a controlled substance and having a substance in either jail or prison.

Some of the other arrests were for receiving stolen goods, shoplifting, embezzlement, violation of parole, battery of an elder and assault that caused great bodily harm.

There were also arrests made for an assault with a deadly weapon and a man who robbed a person in Canyon Country Sunday evening.
