A pair of school board members resignations have left two spots open on Santa Clarita Valley elementary school districts, officials said.

Both districts, the Castaic Union School District and the Newhall School District, have vacancies that are scheduled to be filled by appointment. Their boards are welcoming applications from any legally qualified citizen in either district interested in serving.

Castaic Union School District

For the Castaic Union School District, Michael Lambarth is resigning from his position effective Sept. 1. Lambarth was on the board for less than a year, being appointed in November, before he reportedly resigned due to health reasons.

Interested applicants are encouraged to attend the orientation with Board Members, Laura Pearson and Stacy Dobbs on August 16, 2016 at 5:30 p.m. in the Castaic Union School District Board Room.

The deadline for application submission is Friday, Aug. 19, by 4 p.m. Additional information is available from the Office of the Superintendent, 661-257-4500.

Newhall School District

The Newhall School District Governing Board established its timeline and process for appointing a replacement for Board Member Mike Shapiro.

The resignation for Shapiro’s became effective Aug. 1.

The Newhall School District Governing Board will interview candidates at a Special Board meeting, which will be open to the public) on Tuesday, Aug. 30, at a time that has yet to be announced.

Shapiro represents Trustee Area 4, or east Newhall, which encompasses Newhall and McGrath elementary schools.

Upon appointment and swearing in, the term of office extends until November 2018, when the candidate would be up for election.

Applications will be accepted starting Aug. 8.

They are due to the Newhall School District Office no later than Wednesday, Aug. 24 at 5 p.m. (attention: Wendy Stimson, 25375 Orchard Village Road, Suite 200, Valencia, 91355)

Applicants must be at least 18 years old. Applicants must reside in Trustee Area 4 (east Newhall).
