From kitchen-counter lectures in 1872 to modernized classroom learning in 2022, Sulphur Springs Union School District is celebrating 150 years of educating students next month.
The Sulphur Springs anniversary event is bringing together current families and alumni next month to honor the foundations of the school district that continues to educate Santa Clarita’s youngest generations, 150 years later.
“Sulphur Springs School District is the second oldest school district in the County of Los Angeles and traces its beginnings back to 1872 when the Mitchell family started a school in their home kitchen to provide instruction to children living on the Mitchell Ranch property,” read a statement from Sulphur Springs officials.
In 2022, the Sulphur Springs Union School District has over 700 employees from administrators to transportation staff as well as 5,200 students enrolled with some of the newest technology available for every student, according to Sulphur Springs officials.
The event – complete with a ceremony, live music, school chorus, food trucks, memorabilia, pioneer activities, games and more – is planned to honor every stage of the district, from alumni to their current students and faculty.
Their celebration is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22 at the Sulphur Springs Community School at 16628 Lost Canyon Road in Canyon Country.

Hopefully none of those years were indoctrinating with Racist CRT & Trans Grooming!
Trans grooming is not a term that has anything to do with education.
Critical Race Theory is not something to be feared if taught correctly… it isn’t about making students feel guilty or victimized, it is about teaching history that includes the racism was a part of shaping our country.
Hopefully you are less afraid now.
