The bill signifies major progress in the commitment made last year by Gov. Jerry Brown and the Legislature to provide quality preschool to all low-income 4 year olds, according to Early Edge California is a sponsor of AB 47.

The bill now heads to the Assembly floor for a full vote.

“We are pleased and heartened by the progress and support for this critical piece of legislation,” said Deborah Kong, president of Early Edge California. “We are now one step closer to keeping the promise made to our preschoolers in last year’s budget to ensure that every eligible child have access to preschool before they enter kindergarten.”

Early Edge California works to ensure all children have the early experiences necessary to be successful learners by the end of third grade, setting them on a path to college and career readiness. For more information, visit www.earlyedgecalifornia.org.
