Bridgeport Elementary School Threat Rumors Deemed Uncredible, Inaccurate

A school threat that was allegedly made during a verbal argument at Bridgeport Elementary School earlier this month was deemed uncredible, and law enforcement investigation disproved rumors that a weapon was involved.

On Friday Dec. 2, 2022, deputies received reports of a possible school threat at Bridgeport Elementary School on the 23600 block of Newhall Ranch Road in Valencia, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“A student made a verbal comment towards another student during a verbal argument,” Arriaga said. “At no point during the incident were any weapons brandished, nor did an actual assault occur nor did it entice a credible threat. Deputies determined there was no crime.”

This incident was maintained at a school level, according to officials.

Shortly after the alleged threat, rumors began circulating that the student was threatening to bring either a firearm or a pair of barber scissors to school, according to officials.

“Deputies conducted a threat assessment and confirmed the threat was not credible, nor did the student have access to a firearm,” Arriaga said. “The incident was documented.”

Parents of students in the Saugus Union School District, (SUSD) expressed concerns to KHTS Radio that they did not receive any closure from SUSD officials regarding a false gun or scissor threat.

Colleen Hawkins, the superintendent for the SUSD confirmed the rumor that the student also brought barber scissors to school was “inaccurate”.
She went on to say, that SUSD officials generally do not notify the district as a whole or individual school communities of “isolated issues,” instead informing families who would be affected directly.

“We do not comment on isolated issues involving student discipline,” Hawkins told KHTS in an email. “This includes our notification of the entire school community. If a situation arises that impacts the school community as a whole, we notify the community appropriately. If an incident occurs that is isolated to a group of students or a few students we notify the appropriate parent group or individual families.”

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
