SCVi Celebrates Class Of 2019 With Graduation Ceremony

Santa Clarita Valley International Charter School (SCVi) held its 2019 graduation ceremony at Higher Vision Church Friday.

Following the procession of the faculty and the class of 2019, the guests and graduates were welcomed by Delany Harnett, the SCVi advisory ambassador president.

SCVi ambassadors are “learners,” or students, chosen to represent the school and mentor younger students; the ambassadors were recognizable by the orange cords they wore to the ceremony, according to school officials.

Founders of iLEAD, Dawn Evenson and Amber Raskin, spoke highly of the 2019 graduating class.

SCVi had a 100 percent graduation rate this year, according to school officials.

Faculty Member Kevin Becker then spoke on the connections the students made throughout their years at SCVi, the connections faculty made with the students and the connections students made to one another.

Before the graduate speeches, Emily Bradford, a learner at SCVi, approached the stage once more, this time to perform a parody of “Piano Man” by Elton John, singing “Seniors Now” instead.

Speeches were then given from graduating students Jenna Halas, Yuval Tal, Mateo Bokun and Kailey Spiteri.

Farnaz Kaufman, SCVi’s head of school, then presented the graduating class of 2019.

SCVi celebrated 73 students graduating. Six of the graduates were enrolled in Innovation Studios Learners, the school’s hybrid learning program. Seven were Exploration Learners, the home-study program. Eight were iLEAD Online graduates.

A total 18 of the 52 seated students took at least one course in the International Baccalaureate Program, a rigorous course that takes both junior and senior years of high school to complete, according to school officials.
