The Sulphur Springs Union School District announced a vacancy has recently opened on its governing board, and officials are seeking eligible applicants to fill the position.
The position became available on April 23, when former Board Member Brenda Martinez Gerson resigned from the role, as she had moved out of the school district’s boundaries.
The specific position is for a member from Trustee Area 3, which can be located on this map.
In order to be eligible to apply for the position, candidates must meet several requirements.
Candidates must be at least 18 years old, a United States citizen, a registered voter, a resident of Sulphur Springs Union School District Trustee Area 3 and not barred from office by a felony conviction, according to a release from Superintendent Catherine Kawaguchi.
Additionally, if appointed, attendance at regular board meetings on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. is required, as well as at special meetings.
While district employees are eligible for the position, they must resign from district employment prior to taking office.
Once the district has made a provisional appointment, the public has 30 days to file a petition calling for a special election and containing a sufficient number of signatures with the Los Angeles County Superintendent of Schools office; otherwise, the provisional appointment becomes effective, according to Kawaguchi.
Those who wish to apply for the provisional appointment must submit their application no later than May 15.
Applications may be submitted to Dr. Catherine Kawaguchi either via email at [email protected] or mail to 27000 Weyerhaeuser Way, Santa Clarita, CA 91351.
For applications or more information, visit the district’s official website here.
