Officials with the Santa Clarita Valley Water Agency (SCV Water) are set to host a free virtual class on Saturday to teach the basic elements of sustainable landscaping.
On Saturday, SCV Water is scheduled to host the “Basics of Sustainable Landscaping” virtual class, taught by John Windsor, a certified arborist and a California certified nurseryman.
“He has been a Horticultural Advisor in the Santa Clarita Valley for more than 21 years,” reads a statement issued by SCV Water. “He has a teaching qualification in Horticulture and teaches gardening and landscape classes at the local Adult School, and the Santa Clarita Department of Parks and Recreation.”
Participants are set to learn about the basic elements included in sustainable landscaping, including ways to preserve natural resources, be water-wise, and still have a landscape that meets their needs.

SCV Water hosts a gardening class once a month, which has moved to a virtual format over the past several months due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
“Our instructors will still provide the same great content but in more condensed format,” SCV Water’s statement reads. “Classes will focus on the topic for 45 minutes to one hour, followed by a question-and-answer session at the end. All presentations are recorded and available for viewing on our website one week after the live class. Participants will also be able to download the presentation.”
The free “Basics of Sustainable Landscaping” virtual class is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 6, at 9 a.m.
