Devoted to the free distribution of books in the Los Angeles county, Project Books of the Santa Clarita Valley has worked tirelessly to make sure that no books are discarded in the garbage. With an uncountable amounts of books being thrown away. Their organization hopes to reverse this trend. They work to put used reading materials back in the hands of people who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford them.
Spreading The Joy Of Reading
The joys of reading should be shared. They should not wind up in the local landfill, to be lost forever. Project Books is a non-profit organization placing free books into the hands of people who need them. They were found in 2011 by Marcia Decker when she saw a dumpster filled with books that could have been sold or sent out to new homes to be utilized. She went to bed that night upset, and when she woke up the following morning, Project Books was born. Since then she has dedicated her time to make sure books are preserved, rather than just thrown into the trash bins.
The best part of Marcia’s job is driving to pick up books from people who want to donate them. For her, it is like walking into a toy store for the first time. The gift of a book can open someone’s world. Creating the feeling in that person that is so excited to read a new book for the first time is all the joy you need. To see the look upon their face knowing the journey ahead of them with a new book is very exciting. They have no idea where they are going with this book. No idea on what type of fun they will have while reading this. The journey will be very rewarding for them in the end.
