Tickets are $20 at the door, and all funds will go towards maintaining the center’s outreach program.
Through their programs, the Domestic Violence Center provides shelter and counseling to victims of abuse.
“We want to get people together who are aware of domestic violence,” said Jonathan Kraut, a dance instructor for the city and member of the center’s Board of Directors, explaining it was a “not so heavy” way to learn about the organization’s services.
“1-out-of-3 people are going to end up in contact either directly or indirectly with domestic violence,” he said.
“Anything that (the Domestic Violence Center) does, it all goes back to the DVC outreach program and the shelter,” said Nicole Feast-Williams, one of the organizers for the Midsummer Dance Party and the center.
The center plans to open the floors for dancing and instructors such as Kraut will teach lessons on line dancing, bachata, swing, and salsa.
However, the primary scoop of the event is the food-dip competition in which three prizes are up for grabs.
“We thought if you can dip your partner, you can dip an hor d’oeuvre,” said Kraut.
The organizers are inviting attendees to bring a small sample of food-dip.
“It should be a lot of fun, the winner will get a gift card as well,” said Feast-Williams, explaining the center has invited judges to award the dancers.
The venue holds 200 people, according to Kraut, and the center hopes attendance of the event will exceed 100.
“We started with about 40 people the first time and have added ever since,”
