The 2017 KHTS Country Showdown is looking for country singers from the Santa Clarita Valley to compete for the chance at winning a $100,000 prize at the competition’s national level.

Santa Clarita’s hometown local radio station KHTS AM-1220 is looking to send another talented musical act to the annual competition.

“We’re looking forward to this year’s event,” said KHTS Co-Owner Carl Goldman. “I’m always inspired by the talent who participates.”

“This is the sixth year we’ve participated in a legendary national music contest,” Goldman added.

Over the past five years, KHTS has sent four contestants to the Nashville, Tenn. finals, competing against 450 other radio stations nationwide.

Artists that advance to the next round can benefit from industry mentoring, career advancement, prize and showcase opportunities that the regional and national levels have to offer.

Artists such as Garth Brooks, Miranda Lambert, Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, Toby Keith and Martina McBride are just some of the artists who have participated in past Country Showdown competitions.

The Country Showdown is scheduled to take place on Friday, June 23 from 6 to 10 p.m. as part of the Summer Bash on Luther Drive in Canyon Country.

Last year, Santa Clarita’s Savannah Burrows was able to advance to the regional competition.

Burrows is expected to perform at Central Park in the Concerts in the Park series on Saturday, July 29 at 7 p.m.

In 2012, the first KHTS contestant, Poor Man’s Poison, made it to the final competition, and two years later, another KHTS contestant, Mary Wise-Hawkins, also made it to the finals.
