“Every donation of organs, eyes and tissue begins an inspiring story that lives on forever,” stated an event news release. “In their passing, deceased donors open up a world of health, sight and mobility to people in need, while the gifts from living donors release family members, friends and even strangers to live more fully.”

A mother whose teen daughter became an organ, eye and tissue donor after dying in a car accident as well as a heart transplant recipient are among the evening’s participants, officials said.

In addition to donors’ families and recipients, ICU nurses who cared for donors and representatives from Providence Medical Centers and the nonprofit organ, eye and tissue recovery organization OneLegacy are also expected to participate.

Providence Tarzana, Providence Saint Joseph and Providence Holy Cross medical centers are joining more than 120 organizations and thousands of individuals nationwide who are contributing dedicated roses to the Donate Life float.

The float is set to feature 60 butterflies, one for each life that can be transformed by a single deceased donor, emerging from an open book with 72 volumes decorated with “floragraph portraits” of deceased donors, officials said.

Twelve living organ donors are scheduled to walk alongside the float, while 30 riders representing transplant recipients are expected to sit among thousands of dedicated roses.

The news release continued, “Through its endless power to save, heal and transform lives, organ, eye and tissue donation is truly the never-ending story.”
