What: The Young Artists and Authors Showcase is an annual contest that encourages youth from around the globe to express the mission of Sister Cities International through original artwork, literature, film and photography. The theme for 2019 was “Global Citizens: Resilient Communities,” and one of the essay finalists is a member of Santa Clarita. The exhibit will be on display until May 8.

Santa Clarita Encore Chorale Accepting New Singers Through 2/7

When: Spring Semester – Fridays at 4 p.m. starting Jan. 10
Where: Newhall Church of the Nazarene, 23857 The Old Road in Newhall

What: Santa Clarita Encore Chorale, a nonprofit choir program for seniors, invites adults age 55 or more to join their Spring 2020 semester. The music theme will be “Encore Goes to the Theater,” with favorite Broadway and movie songs from Fiddler on the Roof, Mamma Mia, Phantom of the Opera, Sound of Music, Greatest Showman and West Side Story. A semester tuition of $150 helps cover music and facilities costs. The first rehearsal is FREE with no obligation to continue. Auditions are not required. SCV “All Comers” Meet at Canyon High School

What: Be inspired by the unique creations of Suzi Kades in her solo show “pArts.” With a passion for the environment and a creative mind, Kades upcycles random and odd materials to create little figures and scenes. Her belief that anything can be created from something is evident in her works. She hopes to inspire all ages to recycle and repurpose old materials into a creative outlet. Mardi Gras Madness 5K/10K/1K Benefiting SOAR

What: The members of the Santa Clarita Track Club and Westfield Valencia Town Center present the 10th annual Mardi Gras Madness 5K/10K and Mini Madness 1K benefiting Students Off And Running (SOAR) of Santa Clarita. MGM is a USATF-certified rolling 5K/10K circuit run on paseos, with bridge overpasses that will challenge many runners throughout the city and along the scenic South Fork River Trail. The 10K course offers an additional off-trail dirt element.
