“Our mission statement for the outreach department kind of ties onto the church’s mission statement,” Pisano said. “We just say, ‘As we help people find and follow Jesus, we want to mobilize the church to serve through relationships that transform the world.’”
When the church’s Savia building was opened, it allowed the church to expand and work with other organizations within the community by helping them reach their goals.

“Savia in Latin means tree sap or lifeblood, and we wanted to be the lifeblood of that community and the way we are going to do that is open it up to other nonprofits,” Pisano explained. “So Single Mothers Outreach, Domestic Violence Center, A Light of Hope are all housed up in that building and we just try to help them do the work that God has called on them to do.”
One example of the Savia building serving as a pillar of the community is the work it allows Pisano and the church to do with the homeless. In the past Real Life Church would hand out meals to the homeless in the College of the Canyons Valencia campus, but with the addition of the Savia building they are able to do more.
“Every Monday night we serve a meal, we have an extraordinary clothing section where people donate clothing and we just give it right back out,” Pisano said. “All of our meals are all home cooked by people in the church. We have been given the shower trailer by the San Fernando Valley Homeless Mission.”
Pisano believes the best thing people can do to help is to talk to these people as if they are not homeless, and chat about things such as the weather and sporting events.
“What I have done when I first got on staff is I pulled off all of our volunteer tags so we will have new volunteers come in and they’ll be like, ‘Where are all the homeless people?’ and I say, ‘That’s a really good question — why don’t you grab a plate of food and have a conversation with somebody?’” Pisano explained.
Pisano is grateful for his opportunity to partner with all these organizations and positively impact his community.
“Relationships are what break down the walls and (give) people an opportunity to ask for help,” he said. “Its really great to be working with these other organizations and partnering together to do good in the community.”
