The SCV Pregnancy Center opened the doors of its brand new facility on Rye Canyon Road in Santa Clarita on Monday, officials said.

About 30 years after the nonprofit organization’s inception, center officials made the decision to purchase a new building, and moved into the facility at the corner of Rye Canyon Road and Newhall Ranch Road earlier this month, according to President/CEO Angela Bennett.
“It’s been a 15-year dream for the center, and it’s finally here,” Bennett said. “We’re ready to open our doors to the public in our new place.”

Bennett encouraged anyone in need of a pregnancy test, or in need of having a pregnancy confirmed, to come in to the center.
“One of the things that the Pregnancy Center does is early pregnancy diagnostics, that’s really our focus,” Bennett said. “(It’s) free to everyone.”
Those visiting the SCV Pregnancy Center are first given a pregnancy test, and if it comes back positive, then the doctor will order an ultrasound to confirm the pregnancy, according to Bennett.
“Many think that the pregnancy test is a confirmation of pregnancy,” she explained. “It only evaluates the level of hormones, so you’ll get a positive result if your hormones are elevated. However … there may be other reasons you might get a positive and not have a pregnancy.”
About 35 percent of the women who receive a pregnancy test from the SCV Pregnancy Center have negative results, and of those women who move on to have an ultrasound, only 70 percent have a “positive” ultrasound, Bennett said.
“That means the pregnancy is in the uterus where it belongs, it’s growing the way it’s supposed to be growing and we get the heartbeat, and that indicates that we have a viable intrauterine pregnancy,” she said.
Bennett continued, “It’s so valuable to have an ultrasound to make sure that it’s where it belongs, doing what it’s supposed to be doing, before you decide your next steps, and if you don’t have that, you may be making decisions on incomplete information.”
While the SCV Pregnancy Center opened its doors on Monday, a Grand Opening celebration is planned for March 24 at 9 a.m., and Bennett is inviting the Santa Clarita community to attend.
