“Patsy’s personality is a little shy to begin with. I don’t think she’s had a lot of socialization yet, so we’re working on that,” said Dani Caouette, the shop’s owner. “Once she does get to know you and trust you, she’s a love.”

A few of Patsy’s favorite things to do are playing ball, taking car rides and going on long walks.

“Patsy has made a lot of progress so far,” Caouette said. “She’s starting to open up and trust the people that spend time with her, so you really need to take the time and let her get to know you.”

Great with kids and mild-tempered dogs, Patsy has become best friends with a three-pound chihuahua at Shelter Hope Pet Shop, whom she loves to play with.

Caouette noted that Patsy’s ideal adopters would have an active lifestyle and be willing to continue her socialization and training.

“I think the ideal adopter would be somebody strong, since she is still learning to walk on her leash … and she can pull pretty good,” Caouette said. We need somebody that will keep up with her training … and that really really likes a lot of exercise. I think that would be great for her — the more exercise the better — and she would be a great family dog.”

In addition to finding her forever home, Shelter Hope Pet Shop Santa Clarita is also looking for a temporary foster home for Patsy where she can continue her socialization and training and stay the night until she gets adopted.

About the KHTS Adopt a Pet Series

Every Wednesday, the KHTS Adopt a Pet series features an adoptable animal from the Santa Clarita Valley in need of a home. The KHTS Features team travels to different rescues and shelters in Santa Clarita to meet the pets and tell their stories in hopes of helping them get adopted. First launched in August 2016, the series has partnered with seven local rescues, as well as the Castaic Animal Shelter, to showcase more than 40 dogs, cats and bunnies, and has seen 30 — and counting — adoptions so far. The series was created by Features Director Melissa Lampert, who has more than 10 years of experience in the animal rescue world and co-founded Madeline’s Angels Pet Sanctuary in Santa Clarita in 2016.
