When he’s not climbing around the cat trees and wall perches at St. Bonnie’s Sanctuary, 8-month-old Quincy loves to be carried around on staff and volunteers’ shoulders like a baby.

The Maine Coon mix was rescued from the Lancaster Shelter as a kitten along with the rest of his litter after they contracted ringworm. Though he is now completely healthy, Quincy has been passed over time and time again because of his large size.
“All of his siblings got adopted and he’s been here all by himself,” said Megan Haselwood, an adoption counselor at St. Bonnie’s. “He is bound to get bigger, so if the adopter isn’t interested in a very big cat, this would not be the cat for you.”

Haselwood described Quincy as an adventurous cat who loves to play and adores children.
“Our neighbors from down the street, they bring their children here to play with all the cats every now and then, and he absolutely just loves them,” she said.
Quincy was fostered as a baby with five dogs both large and small, and while he loves to play with other cats, Haselwood noted his size can be intimidating to some.
“He loves other cats but other cats don’t like him because he’s so big,” she said.
With a $150 adoption fee, Quincy is microchipped, fixed, up to date on vaccines and has been treated with flea preventative.
“He is an amazing cat,” Haselwood said, “and ready to go home.”

About the KHTS Adopt a Pet Series
Every Wednesday, the KHTS Adopt a Pet series features an adoptable animal from the Santa Clarita Valley in need of a home. The KHTS Features team travels to different rescues and shelters in Santa Clarita to meet the pets and tell their stories in hopes of helping them get adopted. First launched in August 2016, the series has partnered with seven local rescues, as well as the Castaic Animal Shelter, to showcase more than 40 dogs, cats and bunnies, and has seen 30 — and counting — adoptions so far. The series was created by Features Director Melissa Lampert, who has more than 10 years of experience in the animal rescue world and co-founded Madeline’s Angels Pet Sanctuary in Santa Clarita in 2016.
