Eight months after the Las Vegas shooting that took place last October, some of the victims from Santa Clarita talked to KHTS about how they have been doing since that fateful night.

After sustaining a gunshot to the chest, Cesar Ranuschio, owner of BodyShop661, is still living with the same bullet he received in Las Vegas.
“I got final CT scan and the bullet shattered into over 20 pieces,” Ranuschio said. “They won’t be able to remove the bullet but they said it’ll be okay.”
Doctors discovered during surgery that fragments of shrapnel had gone into his heart muscle tissue, while the bullet lodged itself in his liver.

Doctors were forced to crack open Ranuschio’s chest — much like open-heart surgery — and successfully removed as much shrapnel as they could, which was the biggest concern at the time, said David Lyznick, Ranuschio’s fiance’s father.
“They said it was a miracle that (the bullet) passed between my heart and my liver,” Ranuschio said. “That’s why they open(ed) me up, because they thought it was impossible for me to be so lucky. I really had my dad in heaven looking over me.”
Gloria Aguirre
For Gloria Aguirre, both the medical and emotional struggles did not end after she came back from Las Vegas.
“I’ve been able to control my PTSD much better now,” Aguirre said. “But a little after our last interview, I was hit with some pretty awful news.”
Prior to heading to Las Vegas for the concert, Aguirre was diagnosed with a benign condition in her left breast. She said she was told it could be monitored with annual mammograms, and shouldn’t progress as long as she stayed away from excessively stressful environments.
And then she went to the concert.

Likely as a result of extreme stress, Aguirre was diagnosed with category four breast cancer after returning to Santa Clarita from Las Vegas. The cancer had spread from her left breast to both the right and left breasts.
The knee surgery Aguirre needs due to the fractures she suffered from falling down a stairwell and being trampled by fleeing concert-goers has been placed on hold as a result of this news, said Aguirre.
She went on to have a double mastectomy in April, but Aguirre noted the surgery didn’t go well and she nearly died as a result. After recovering, Aguirre had a second operation the following month.
She had also previously undergone a shoulder surgery for injuries from the Las Vegas incident, and while it was somewhat successful, Aguirre said that she will need to have it looked at again once her cancer is fully addressed.

However, despite all of the medical problems that Aguirre has faced, she said she refuses to ask the question, “Why me?”
“I have my daughters and my boyfriend that I need to be strong for,” Aguirre said.
Throughout the entire process, Aguirre’s boyfriend, Patrick Hobbs, who was with her on that fateful night in October, has been a solid support.
“Patrick has been beside me every step of the way,” Aguirre said. “He’s doing great.”
