Meet the Candidates: Bob Kellar

Incumbent Mayor addresses the future of Santa Clarita.
KHTS was joined by Mayor Bob Kellar Thursday morning for live interview. The program is part of our “Meet the Candidates” series, where all five of the Santa Clarita residents running for the two open seats on the City Council are given an hour of on-air time.

Mayor Kellar discussed many issues facing Santa Clarita in the coming years and months, and not all of those will be ultimately decided in City limits. He explained how much of his job is directed outward.

“One of the main things that we do at City Hall is meet with other elected officials at all levels of government,” Kellar said. “There are always a number of issues that are on the table having to be dealt with on a regular basis where decisions are made in other places.”

One of the most recent items that took Kellar away from City Hall was Cemex. “I believe I’ve been to Washington somewhere approaching fifteen times,” Kellar noted, adding that most of those trips were to fight Cemex.

In the interview, Kellar also talked about the Henry Mayo Campus expansion plans, public safety, and some campaign related items that have brought a lot of media attention lately.
