Fatal is eighth in Santa Clarita in 2008.

A Canyon Country man died Thursday morning when his
motorcycle hit a dump truck near the Rye Canyon Loop.

Today’s incident is the eighth motorcycle-related fatality
in Santa Clarita in 2008.

Juan Zavala, 24, was riding his 2004 Yamaha motorcycle
northbound on Kelly Johnson Parkway
at 8:05 a.m. when a dump truck and
trailer driven by Misak Vardanyan, 55, of Van Nuys, pulled out of a driveway.
Zavala was unable to stop, hit the side of the truck and was run over.

Det. Robert Smoldt of the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s traffic
bureau said that Vardanyan was not cited and the investigation into the
accident is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call Smoldt at 799-5111.
