AB 1993 Requiring All Santa Clarita Employees, Contractors To Be Vaccinated Put On Pause

Assembly bill 1993, (AB 1993) that would have required all businesses to mandate all employees and contractors be vaccinated against COVID-19 has been put on hold, officials announced Tuesday.

AB 1993’s leading Author Assemblymember Buffy Wicks, D-Oakland, announced that she would not move forward with the Bill at this time.

“We’ve defeated AB 1993, the employer vaccine mandate. The author just announced she will not move it forward,” said Assemblymember Kevin Kiley, R-Sacramento in a tweet.

In the announcement made by Wicks on Twitter Tuesday, she said with COVID-19 cases receding and the rising concerns surrounding her bill, she is now open to working with labor and employers to address their concerns.

“We’re now in a new & welcome chapter in this pandemic, with the virus receding for the moment,” Wicks said in a Tweet. “This provides for us the opportunity to work more collaboratively with labor and employers to address concerns raised by the bill. That is why we have decided to put AB 1993 on pause, and allow space for these conversations to continue and progress.”

If Wicks had not decided to pause forward motion, AB 1993 would have had its first hearing yesterday, March 29.

While AB 1993 was put on pause for now, another vaccine bill is still haunting the residents of Santa Clarita Valley- Senate Bill 1871, (SB 1871).

SB 871 would require all public and private schools, nurseries, daycares, family daycare homes or development centers to not allow students to enroll unless they are fully vaccinated with all vaccinations determined by the California Department of Health. The bill also requires all students to be fully immunized against COVID-19.

In a poll created by KHTS Radio on Tuesday, community members were asked, “Would you enroll your child in any school if this law is passed?” Santa Clarita residents have voted with a strong opposition against sending their child to school if the law passed, with 543 voters saying no, and 80 voters saying yes, as of Wednesday morning.

Though AB 1993 has been paused to allow for further conversations, concerns surrounding SB 1871 have yet to be addressed.

  1. Follow the Psyence!

  2. The Covid vaccine is not like many of the previous known vaccines, which have been effective in preventing certain diseases. The scientific community has not been able to decipher in full, the effectiveness of the Covid vaccine and how it affects different biological systems. Furthermore, the information being disseminated by diverse groups and agencies appear to have biased scientific opinions and self-interest political conflicts. Politicians have made a game out of a serious health issue and have imposed further severe damage on a country and communities already weary of political swindles. I have relatives and friends with the following results after being vaccinated: One had a stroke 12 minutes after being vaccinated; one ended up in the hospital with breathing issues; one had the original vaccine plus two boosters and she has had the Covid 6 times; one had the virus and then was vaccinated weeks after the virus and ended up in the hospital; Four others were infected with Covid after being vaccinated. Many swear by the vaccines and others claim that it helps with damage control if infected. Up until about 8 years ago, I used to get the flu shot and every year I got the flu. I stopped the shot, and I haven’t seen the flu ever since. My family decided from the get-go that we would not get the vaccine and instead, work on strengthening our immune system and so far, so good. I am not against nor pro vaccine, I am not telling anyone what to do, you must decide what is best for you based on your own fact-finding process; however, to have any politician of any affiliation decide what is best for us is deceptive, ignorant, ludicrous, disturbing, nauseating, and unacceptable!

  3. Epidemiologists? Contagious disease specialists? Pulmonary doctors? Can we trust them more than Joe Schmo?

  4. Frank Aparicio worded my view rather well, I’ll just add that it’s outrageous that people are being forced to take these undeniably controversial vaccines. The supporters often dismiss the reserves against these vaccines as conspiracy theories, but no, the controversy is wide-ranging, it includes medical professionals and scientists, and the inefficacy of the vaccine is also clear for all to see, demonstrating that mandates are mainly “make-believe” political gestures and an infringement of individual rights that does not lead to the results that would make it justifiable. Sheep thinking seems to be the main factor here, it’s good that these vaccines exist, but forcing them is both unnaceptable and unjustifiable, and even though there were vaccine mandates in the past, there really is no precedent to this virus, for which a viable and effective medical antagonist still doesn’t exist.

    • You did say that it’s good these vaccines exist!
Covid has killed many people, and it is contagious. I think “sheep thinking” is an overused term. When many people agree, it doesn’t mean they are sheep that blindly followed. Have more faith! People don’t want to die. Bottom line.

  5. When a politician has D after their name we can pretty much know it’s a crappy idea
Californians need to wise up and stop voting in idiot politicians.

    • That will take we the people of California start to investigate our election integrity and get more involved because we have an inept CAGOP who seems to be more like controlled opposition. When we gathered all those signatures for the recall and the asshat still wins, and we saw the funny business in Woodland Hills, and the GOP does no investigation, it should tell you something.

    • You aren’t giving that person or that person’s ideas a chance, because there’s a D after their name, kms? I agree we need to vote in people with real answers, but wouldn’t assume (if they are a Democrat) that they’re incapable of helping to solve California’s problems. The meeting of the minds, as they say, usually brings out creative solutions. Just a thought.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
