Jason Gibbs Appointed To Represent Area 3 Santa Clarita City Council Seat

During a special meeting on Monday, the Santa Clarita City Council appointed councilmember Jason Gibbs to fill the Area 3 seat starting in December.

Gibbs’ seat on the City Council is up for re-election due to his current term expiring this year.

With the 2024 election being the first-ever by-district election of the City Council, Gibbs was running for re-election unopposed.

Due to Gibbs not facing any opponents, the City council had two decisions: to appoint him to the Area 3 seat or place him on the ballot, allowing the chance for write-in candidates, Gibbs said.

“There were two options. The first they chose was because no one else filed paperwork,” Gibbs said. “I was the only nominee  for the Area 3 seat, so the City had the ability under the election code to appoint me to the position.”

Gibbs will finish his current term with the City Council and will be sworn into the Area 3 Seat in December.

“Thank you to all my friends, supporters, and my amazing family during this election cycle!,” Gibbs said in a social media post. “I will always keep a best for the city attitude as we transition into District voting going forward, but to my District 3 constituents, I hope this appointment is a testament to your confidence in me and my unwavering commitment to this beautiful city.”

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
