Knight talked about health care, national security, taking care of veterans and upcoming priorities, such as tax reform and the NDAA, or annual authorization of the military budget.

Knight began by making his case for the controversial American Health Care Act, with a narrative that started with the problems associated with Obamacare about nine years ago, basic “sustainability” issues that meant the bill would only last for years, not generations, he argued.

“Basically, the only way you’re going to see a fix is through reconciliation,” Knight said, referring to congressional rules that would limit budget bill debate to 20 hours, intended to allow passage of a budget bill without a filibuster.

“The Senate will make changes to this law, they will make drastic changes,” Knight said, also noting there are five states that have only one provider under Obamacare and one state, Iowa, that has zero providers.

Knight also acknowledged concerns about the AHCA, saying he liked about “70-80 percent of it,” and calling it patient-centered.

Here are two contrasting views on the health care debate: Trumpcare.com and Obamacarefacts.com.

During a question-and-answer portion, Saugus Union School District board member Judy Umeck asked Knight for clarity regarding a lot of the conversation over pre-existing conditions, echoing questions that have dominated the conversation about the repeal of Obamacare.

“Pre-existing conditions are what everyone’s talking about,” Knight said, but added that there were “three different layers of coverage,” to protect citizens from losing coverage.

Knight said the current plan retains a prohibition on excluding those with pre-existing condition; however, if a state does opt out of the exchange and those requirements, “there are three different layers of coverage for pre-existing conditions,” he said, including an $8 billion pool for about 20,000 citizens who are projected to potentially “fall through the cracks.”

Before Knight addressed the crowd and took a few questions, LIMS owner Jimmy Lifton discussed two new programs for his nonprofit, LIMS, which not only offers full-service movie studios Los Angeles filmmakers can use, but also doubles as a film production school.

His adopt-a-vet program allows those wanting to support veterans the opportunity to help them while they’re in the 10-week program. He’s also started a new program to help young adults on the autism spectrum.

The new owner of Sand Canyon Country Club, Steve Kim, also made a presentation on the renovations, improvements and plans he has slated for the former Robinson Ranch property in Sand Canyon.

  1. What did the Congressman have to say on the FBI Director Comey’s firing? The investigations into Russian hacking? A Special prosecutor?

  2. When will Rep Knight be holding an event that the voting public can attend?
He seems to be hiding from his constituents
I think it is fine he held an event for the chosen few, but we the voters want to speak to him. His website fails to list his events, what is he hiding.
It does say he will be carding all attending in the future, well I have lived in the SCV for over 40 years and I want to speak to him.
