Millions in road repairs, expanded library access and citywide service contracts were all greenlit Tuesday night at the Santa Clarita City Council meeting.
The Santa Clarita City Council meeting also opened with two recognitions, honoring local veterans and the environment.
“Tonight, we thank all Vietnam War veterans for their service, sacrifice and perseverance,” councilmember Bill Miranda said during a proclamation recognizing National Vietnam War Veterans Day.
City leaders also highlighted Arbor Day and Santa Clarita’s commitment to maintaining its trees and green spaces.
More Than $12 Million Approved for Road Repairs
The biggest investment of the night goes toward maintaining and improving roads across the city.
The council approved more than $12 million for the 2025–26 Overlay and Slurry Seal Program, which includes several layers of work:
Overlay A and B projects: Repaving sections of roads that need more extensive repair
Slurry seal work: A protective coating that helps extend the life of streets and prevent cracks
Inspection and testing: Ensuring materials and construction meet safety and quality standards
Surveying work: Protecting and preserving street markers and infrastructure
City officials say this is part of an annual system where streets are evaluated and prioritized based on their condition.
For drivers, it means smoother roads over time, even if the work itself can cause short-term construction headaches.
City Newsletter Will Keep Reaching Thousands of Homes
The City is continuing its long-running State of the City newsletter, which is mailed out twice a year to keep residents informed
The council approved a three-year contract with Mellady Direct Marketing, a Santa Clarita-based company, to handle printing and mailing.
The newsletter goes out to roughly 78,000 households and includes updates from city leaders, public safety agencies and ongoing projects – everything from road improvements to library programs.
City officials say it’s one of the main ways they communicate directly with residents about what’s happening in the community.
Restrooms and Fencing Keep Parks and Events Running Smoothly
Another contract focuses on something most people don’t think about, but definitely notice when it’s missing: portable restrooms and temporary fencing.
The City approved a deal with Andy Gump, Inc. to provide those services across parks, facilities and major events.
That includes large community gatherings like Concerts in the Park, Cowboy Festival, River Rally and Light Up Main Street, as well as everyday needs like closing off areas for maintenance.
The added contingency funding gives the City flexibility to respond to unexpected needs, like bigger crowds or emergency repairs.
More Books, Movies and Digital Access for Library Users
The City is also investing heavily in its library system, approving funding for both physical and digital materials.
That includes up to $800,000 for books and other physical items, along with additional funding for digital content through Hoopla – giving residents access to audiobooks, eBooks, movies and music.
The goal is to keep expanding what’s available, whether someone prefers visiting a branch in person or using library services from home.
The next regular City Council meeting is scheduled for April 14, 2026.
