Scott Wilk Expands Lead In State Senate Race

State Senator Scott Wilk, R-Santa Clarita, narrowly expanded his lead over Democratic challenger Kipp Mueller Thursday, with just over 2,500 votes separating the two candidates.

As of 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Wilk led in the race for California’s 21st Senate District (SD-21) with an estimated 50.4% of the vote compared to Mueller’s 49.6%.

This is a slight expansion of Wilk’s lead the day before, when he held 50.25% of the vote and Mueller held 49.75%, with less than 600 votes separating the two.

When the first vote counts were reported at around 8:20 p.m. Tuesday, Mueller held a larger lead over Wilk, as the first round of reporting came from Democratic-leaning vote-by-mail ballots.

However, as the voting center ballots have slowly continued to be reported, Wilk gradually closed that gap, eventually overtaking Mueller following a 2:07 a.m. update from Los Angeles County.
