The SCV Water board is set to vote on the nomination by Supervisor Kathryn Barger, who proposed Acosta as the LA County representative, during their Dec. 18 meeting.

“I am very passionate about the issue and want to ensure the quality and consistency of water is upheld in the valley,” said Acosta, in a previous story.

Acosta would represent County Waterworks District No. 36, which encompasses Val Verde and parts of Castaic.

Over 30 residents shared concerns to members of the water board regarding Acosta’s voting record and his place of residence, which is not located in the district he would represent.

“I object to Dante Acosta being appointed to the (SCV Water) board for many reasons, including the facts that he has no science or engineering background, does not live in the Val Verde/Castaic area and voted against water conservation during his time in the state assembly,” said Fem Zalin Jones in a letter to the board.

The current member representing District 36 is Dean Efstathiou, nominated by former Supervisor Michael Antonovich, who served 24 years on the Castaic Lake Water Agency Board.

The term for Efstathiou is set to end on Jan. 1, the county had the option to re-appoint the current member or nominate a new person to fill the seat, according to SCV Water.

If appointed, Acosta’s term on the SCV Water Board would last until 2023.

  1. Points well made regarding lack of qualifications and poor voting record on these issues.
I know Kathryn, he’s an out of work fellow Republican and there was a job vacancy…

  2. I am acquainted with Mr Acosta. He is a dedicated man who is looking to serve the people. He is the father of an American hero who gave his life in service to this country.

I don’t believe Kathryn Barger made a political appointment, but a qualified one. I agree with her suggestion that he would be a good appointment.

You don’t need to be a scientist to look after the needs of the people.

  3. As a fellow republican I am happy to have him aboard he has been in the government work for quite awhile knows how to run the show and hopefully won’t try to tax us more on life like the dems.

  4. No Dante Acosta. I will refuse to pay by bill. Iin my personal opinion should hold no public appointment did not do a good job in Sacramento, not qualified to be appointed to this position.

  5. Being a Republican, being the father of a war hero and being unemployed have nothing to do with his poor voting record on water conservation and that he has no qualifications for the job. Let’s be intelligent in the appointment of a qualified individual.

  6. Acosta is a good man. He will serve well in whatever he does.

    • Speaking of lack of qualifications….Katie Hill uhh um… Shes an executive of a non profit provider for the homeless, lives with her husband, girlfriend and donkey in Agua Dulce and now shes in congress!? All of these Dems above are hypocrites and have no clue who they are talking about. Dante will rock this position and the majority of the SCV community are proud to have him represent the water board.
