Runner underwent a successful double lung transplant in 2012 and recently celebrated her fourth anniversary with new lungs.
Unfortunately, medical challenges during the cold and flu season have become more difficult to address.
While she is now healthy, her doctors have advised that the stress of a campaign and four more years in the Legislature would be detrimental to her health.
“This is a difficult decision that was made after a great deal of prayer, thought, and discussions with my family and doctors,” said Runner. “I will continue to work hard and advocate for my constituents for the remainder of my term, but have chosen not to seek re-election. My doctors have stressed the need to slow down, and I will heed their advice.”

Known for her ability to bring people together, she was the only candidate whose name appeared on the ballot. She previously represented the 21st Senate District from 2011-2012.
“The opportunity to once again represent the 21st District in the State Senate was an unexpected blessing and something I will always be thankful for,” said Runner. “In the coming years, I have every intention of continuing to serve my wonderful community, just not as a member of the Legislature.”
Her current term ends in December 2016.
