“The Young Turks” Host Cenk Uygur announced Thursday that he is seeking the 2020 Democratic nomination for the U.S. House of Representatives in California’s 25th district, officials said.
Uygur’s bid for the Congressional seat joins the already crowded race, with several other candidates on both sides of the aisle vying for former Congresswoman Katie Hill’s seat.
“I’m running because I’m so angry that no one is pointing out the obvious — almost all of our politicians take bribes from corporate interests and lobbyists,” said Uygur. “We have ridiculously low wages and a horrible healthcare system because politicians took money from those industries to sell you out. It’s time people had a representative who actually represented them rather than the greedy, corrupt donor class.”

Uygur now faces Assemblymember Christy Smith and David Rudnick on the Democratic side, as well as Mark Cripe, Mike Garcia, Angela Underwood-Jabobs and former Congressman Steve Knight on the Republican side.
“CA-25 is a working-class district with people who work so hard, but don’t get the wages they deserve. Every dollar that companies pay their employees is a dollar less in profits — that’s why they buy off politicians to keep your wages low,” Uygur said. “I’m not going to tolerate that. I’m going to fight like hell to get you higher wages, better healthcare and a government that actually works for you.”
Uygur launched Wolf PAC, an organization dedicated to getting “big money” out of politics. It is both the passion of ridding politics of “corruption and big money” that led to Uygur’s decision to run for office, according to a statement.
“I respect the work Cenk has done to build a grassroots movement on TYT for supporting Medicare for All, for free public college and for getting money out of politics. Congress needs bold progressives like him. Cenk has my endorsement for his candidacy,” said Representative Ro Khanna.
Uygur has received criticism from local Democratic groups over recent comments before announcing his campaign.
“As the governing body of the Democratic Alliance for Action, we are highly concerned about revelations of inappropriate and hateful comments made by CA25 candidate and The Young Turks host Cenk Uygur against women, LGBTQ+ people, and people of the Jewish and Muslim faith,” said a statement from the Democratic Alliance for Action.
“The excitement around our campaign has already been overwhelming,” said Uygur. “We are going to run this race and bring an anti-corruption message to California’s 25th district that we believe is long overdue from anyone in Washington.”

Turks—-Remember the Armenian Genocide?! You want to GIVE lots away!!? Do you have any Middle East Donations??! Or to, foundations etc.?!?! Most decent AMERICANS describe themselves as AMERICANS, not some other hyphenated country name!! Happy Thanksgiving AMERICA!!
Thank god rationality is on our side. I’m also not very surprized this article did not mention any of the nuances including Cenk’s transition from being a Republican to a Democrat, and his apology videos. Vote for the rational side. #Cenk2020
As long as there are no graphic photos of smoking dope in a state of undress while cavorting with democratic interns, most decent candidates should have a good shot at the seat shamefully vacated by Katie.
Exactly what is a “Youn Turk”?
Another Libtard wanting to give away hard working taxpayers moneys!!
I first heard TYT in 2003 on Sirius satellite. Interesting news outfit. Humor makes the Apocalypse almost tolerable.
The Executive Producer and Lead Anchor is a 2nd generation Armenian hyphen American. Ana Kasparian helps keep the blue meanies in check.
Cenk is driven. His optimism is uplifting. He doesn’t shrink from bullies. He is certainly worth hearing from.
No nude photos.
He went from a decent Republican to a Democrat——Look what Democrats have done to once beautiful cities from Seattle to San Diego!!! We don’t want that in SCV!! Go fix Garrcity & leave us alone, we’ve been doing great!!
As a Vietnam War era vet who lost 2 friends in that unnecessary and unpopular conflict (sound familiar to today?) I have endured many elections where platitudes prevail to win over voters. Being retired allows me to investigate alternative media narratives – and the journey has been incredible. I have watched Cenk for a long time now, and I don’t always agree whit what he says. On balance he is head and shoulders over most other journalists in both legacy and social media. Please listen to his policies before relegating him to the dumpster. Promises with no teeth he ain’t – he gets it. And please don’t lump all of us baby boomers into one category – some of us still have active gray matter!
