On Monday, State Assemblymember Suzette Valladares, R- Santa Clarita, gave a statement on her opinions about Assembly Bill (AB) 1400, known as the “California Guaranteed Health Care for All Act.”
A statement was released by Assemblymember Valladares on Jan. 31 on the California Guaranteed Health Care for All Act, a bill seeking to set up a statewide universal single-payer health system.
“Most Californians access their care through their employer-funded healthcare plans, Medi-Cal, Medicare, or Covered California, giving them choices not only in plans, but in doctors,” Valladares said. “AB 1400 abolishes these plans to create a single, government-run healthcare system – effectively eliminating patient choice. That’s why I support a more inclusive approach that meets everyone’s needs.”

Valladares expressed her disapproval of the bill, further stating that she “wholeheartedly (believes) that every individual deserves access to affordable, quality health care.”
AB 1400, if passed, would create the California Guaranteed Health Care for All program, also known as CalCare, designed to provide comprehensive universal single-payer health care coverage along with a health care cost control system for California residents.
Essentially, the bill represents a chance for Californians to have access to a publicly-funded health care system similar to those in Canada or the United Kingdom.
If passed and funded, AB 1400 would make California the only state with a single-payer healthcare system.
“There are families with young children with disabilities who spent years searching for the right doctor, and AB 1400 would put that important care at risk,” Valladares said. “There are women and seniors with chronic health concerns who are comfortable with the care provided by their specialists and general practitioners, but AB 1400 would put an end to many of those doctor/patient relationships.”
Valladares added that the state should get people what she describes as the affordable healthcare and access that all Californians deserve.
AB 1400 “would provide that CalCare cover a wide range of medical benefits and other services and would incorporate the health care benefits and standards of other existing federal and state provisions…” according to the bill’s text.
AB 1400 does not include funding measures, which are included in Assembly Constitutional Amendment No. 11. This bill also needs to be voted on by the Assembly and California voters for AB 1400 to be funded.
AB 1400 is slated to be sent to the floor of the State Assembly on Monday, according to officials with Valladares’s office, and further details may be available soon. For more information on AB 1400, the bill’s text and additional notes are available here.

Rampant Liberal Spending Plan without fiscal responsibility.
Demonicrats, of course.
This reminds me of Bernie Sanders. He never answered how universal heathcare would be paid for. He didn’t even know how much it would cost.
The answer to both is higher taxes!
This will break the bank, even if it especially includes Illegal Aliens, which shouldn’t be here in the first place!! Thanks Liberals & Xiden!
By the way @Bowling Bill you already paying taxes that cover health care costs for the undocumented children and elders through Medi-CAL. That Universal health plan that the Governor has proposed a week ago to budget for is not Universal cause it doesn’t cover you, what he means by Universal is that he will be budgeting to abide by the new law AB4 which extends Medi-CAL to all undocumented folks. AB1400 would rightfully cover the undocumented but it would also have covered YOU. All of us and offered better than Medi-CAL under AB1400 guaranteed comprehensive health care for way less than you will be paying now to cover the new coverage for the additional undocumented and the premiums, copays and deductibles you pay for yourself(you know that gets deducted from your paycheck like a tax). We just got through a pandemic dude the guy bagging your groceries deserves health care to…he gets sick you get sick….
Dumb is forever. California’s vote to tax themselves on the most stupid stuff over and over again by referendum and ballot. When it comes to a policy that could save them money and possibly save their lives they go screaming about taxes and believe the propaganda being handed to them by an industry that wants to profit from them. YOU all are paying a tax its called a premium, a copay and a deductible all for the luxury of being declined the care you need when you need it. Every high income earning country in this world has a type of single payer health care system, those people live longer, are healthier and pay less for guaranteed health care. We could have the same but you all are manipulated by the tropes and lies by an industry so out of control that they are causing people to die, causing people medical debt, causing people to go bankrupt cause they had the audacity to get sick or injured. No one in other countries, less wealthy and less powerful than ours, that employe a single payer health care system go bankrupt or in to medical debt because they get ill or injured. Single Payer and AB1400 would have allowed health care to be publicly funded but remain PRIVATELY delivered. You get to keep your doctor or like most of us who are now forced into narrow insurance networks we get to see the doctors we would prefer. With AB1400 we would have received more care than most get now for much less and guaranteed. You guys would rather wait till you need a GO FUND Me the support policy that would be a benefit to you.
No. We are sane and need to control rampant, unfunded spending, and unsustainable Taxation. The Soviet Union had universal Healthcare, and ginormous public spending. Creak, Crack, Snap, All Fall Down: Orphan Satellite states joining NATO.
George Herbert Bush: Read my lips, No new Taxes.
I support defunding of social programs and liberal spending.
Demonicrats are Socialist and Communist: they want to tax someone else. They are worse than junkies.
California budget needs a starvation diet.
