The cast of “Reno 911!” is reminding Santa Clarita residents of “the 9 p.m. routine” designed to help keep property safe in a new video.
Residents are encouraged to set a reminder, nightly, to remind them to follow a few steps to help prevent theft.
The “#9PMRoutine,” promoted by the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and the City of Santa Clarita, calls for individuals to remove any valuables from vehicles, lock vehicle doors and trunks, check exterior door locks and turn on exterior lights.
“These are simple things the community can do, before they go to bed, to partner with us to prevent themselves from becoming a victim of crime,” said former Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Captain Robert Lewis.

To help spread the word, Santa Clarita residents are asked to share the video with their community and to encourage friends, family and neighbors to partake in the 9 p.m. routine.
Both the City and Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station encourage the community to share the hashtag #9PMRoutine across social media, in an effort to “thwart crime and maintain safety in our Santa Clarita community.”
“Please use 9-1-1 to report an emergency. This hashtag is a fun way to remind people to lock up and secure their valuables every evening. We look forward to the community getting involved and sharing their 9 p.m. routine,” said City Spokesperson Carrie Lujan.
If residents witness a crime being committed, they are encouraged to call 9-1-1 or the Sheriff’s Station at 661-255-1121.
Before you get too comfy for the night, don’t forget to complete your #9PMRoutine.
