Nearly 12 Million Pounds Of Meat Recalled Due To Possible Listeria Contamination

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced a recall of nearly 12 million pounds of meat and poultry due to a listeria contamination.

The Oregon-based meat supplier BrucePac, which mainly produces pre-cooked and ready-to-eat proteins, has issued a recall for meat and poultry products produced from May 31 to Oct. 8, according to the FSIS.

The protein products were shipped to restaurants, schools, institutions, and distributors nationwide and have the establishment numbers “51205” or “P-51205” under the USDA mark of inspection.

“Because we sell to other companies who resell, repackage, or use our products as ingredients in other foods, we do not have a list of retail products that contain our recalled items,” BrucePac said in a statement.

The company recommends visiting the USDA website to identify the source of the protein.

Currently, there’s been no confirmed reports of listeria due to the consumption of these

products.

Recalled products include salads, wraps, pasta bowls, burritos, enchiladas and many other ready-made frozen and family meals, and come from brands including Fresh Express, Rao’s, Boston Market, Atkins, Dole, ReadyMeals, Taylor Farms, Home Chef and Signature Select.

Listeria monocytogenes are bacteria that can contaminate food and can cause fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions, sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms.
