Santa Clarita Valley residents are invited to attend a scheduled virtual town hall meeting next month to discuss the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) and topics related to the department.
A virtual town hall meeting regarding the LASD’s performance, held by the L.A. County Civilian Oversight Commission, is slated for Tuesday, June 8, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m and residents are invited to discuss hot button issues like policing during protests, response times and rising crime levels.
“Following speaker remarks, local leaders would like to hear about your experience with deputies & how you feel about public safety in your community,” officials with the L.A. County Civilian Oversight Commission stated. “Bring your observations, thoughts & suggestions. Join us at the upcoming town hall.”

This past year, during the countrywide protests related to the death of George Floyd, demonstrations both for and against local law enforcement have taken place in Santa Clarita.
This public meeting may provide a way for Santa Clarita Valley residents to voice either concerns or support for the law enforcement agency, given the stark rift in the Santa Clarita community’s responses to police protests across the country.
The public town hall meeting will reportedly be available to view through Facebook.
In addition to public commentary, the town hall event is also slated to feature speakers such as Andrea Welsing, director of the Office of Violence Prevention for the L.A. County Department of Public Health, and Lael Rubin, former deputy district attorney.
