Super Scoopers Return To Canada After L.A. County Contract Expires

The Super Scoopers have been released and are headed back to Quebec after assisting in firefights throughout Los Angeles County, including Santa Clarita.

The super scoopers arrived at the Van Nuys Airport back in September on a three month contract as they do each year just before the peak of Southern California fire season.

These aircraft worked alongside the Los Angeles County Fire Department’s (LACoFD) 10 helicopters to help battle brush fires throughout the County, including Santa Clarita.

With Los Angeles County starting to get rain, and humidity levels rising, the LACoFD did not feel it necessary to extend the contract to keep the fixed-wing aircraft in the County.

This was the 28th year the LACoFD has contracted these planes from Canada.

The Department has not purchased their own because they feel it is better to invest in helicopters that can be used year long for multiple different missions, instead of the planes witch can only be used for fighting fire, according to officials.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
