What’s Your Plan For The Next Santa Clarita Wildfire?

Three major fires have ignited near the Santa Clarita Valley within a week, serving as a good reminder for all residents to have a “Ready,” “Set,” “Go” plan in place.

The first of the three fires was , which erupted Thursday, Aug. 7, in Ventura County, making its way northeast and crossing into Los Angeles County, threatening homes and property in Val Verde and Castaic.

The fire scorched 5,370 acres and destroyed seven structures before being fully contained.

The second fire that erupted was the King Fire.

The King Fire broke out just after 1 a.m. Thursday in the 45100 block of Copco Road in Gorman.

The fast-moving brush fire has burned 577 acres and is 40 percent contained as of Friday.

Two unoccupied RVs were destroyed at the Pyramid Lake RV park early on in the incident, according to officials.

The third fire, the Hawk Fire, broke out just after 3 p.m. Thursday in the 35000 block of Trenmar Drive in Acton.

The Acton fire is 42 percent contained and has burned 400 acres as of Friday morning.

These fires all placed several neighborhoods under evacuation warnings, orders, and the most severe one of them all, shelter-in-place orders.

With dry conditions here, and October being when the Santa Ana winds tend to become a factor in our weather, now could not be a better time to make sure all homeowners have plenty of brush clearance around homes, and a “Ready,” “Set,” “Go” plan ready for not if, but when the next fire breaks out.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
