The SoCalGas advisory is voluntary in which customers are being called on to conserve natural gas because of limited availability.

More than 95 percent of Southern Californians use natural gas to heat their homes, and about 60 percent of the electricity used in California comes from power plants that run on natural gas, according to Gas Company officials.

Customers can still heat their homes and businesses, but are being asked to lower their  thermostat to at least 68 degrees, wait a day to use major gas appliances and wash with cold water.

During this time, consumers are also encouraged to cut back on water and electricity use as well.

SoCalGas customers can help lower the risk of possible natural gas and electricity shortages during this crucial time.

The advisory will continue until further notice.

To receive the SoCalGas advisory via text message, text “ADVISORY” to 39044 or call 1-800-427-2200 for more information.
