Scot Gomez, 32, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash that occurred on the northbound 5 Freeway, just north of the SR-136, at approximately 5:27 a.m., said Lt. David Smith with the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
Preliminary reports indicate Gomez’s vehicle, a 2003 black Toyota Camry, was disabled in lanes prior to the collision, according to a news release issued by the CHP. For an undetermined reason, he exited his vehicle.
A 2003 black GMC Yukon collided with the left rear of the Camry, pinning Gomez between both vehicles, according to the CHP.

“Due to the early time of the morning and low visibility, it was difficult for other motorists to see both vehicles in lanes,” according to the CHP. “Due to the collision blocking traffic lanes, at least two other vehicles were involved in collisions in their attempts to avoid that which was already blocking lanes.”
This incident is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol, Altadena Area.
