Canyon Boys Advance To Semifinals, Hart Girls Fall In Quarterfinals

After an intense round of CIF basketball quarterfinals, the Canyon boys’ basketball team secured a spot in the Division 2A semifinals, while the Hart girls’ team fell short in a hard-fought battle.

The Cowboys punched their ticket to the semifinals for the first time since the 2013-14 season with a thrilling 60-57 victory over Rancho Mirage. Eric Kubel led the charge with 25 points, followed by Isaac Yuhico with 16. Chigozie Osuji added eight points, while Solomon Sims and Noah Madrigal contributed five and four points, respectively.

Canyon will now host Oak Park in the semifinals on Friday at 7 p.m. at Canyon High School. Oak Park is coming off a solid 55-45 win over Los Altos. Tickets for the game can be purchased at the door or online here.

While Canyon continues its postseason run, the Hart girls’ team saw their season come to an end on Wednesday in a heartbreaking 67-64 loss to Palos Verdes.

Hart started strong, dominating the first quarter with a 24-10 lead. However, Palos Verdes responded in the second, outscoring the Hawks 26-18 to cut the halftime deficit to 42-36. Hart maintained its advantage heading into the fourth, leading 51-46, but Palos Verdes surged late, outscoring Hart 21-13 in the final quarter to claim the victory.

Though Hart’s season ended, the team showed resilience throughout the playoffs, beating the likes of San Jacinto (59-52) and South (41-38). Meanwhile, Canyon looks to continue its historic run as it prepares for its semifinal showdown.
