The night the Dodgers’ faithful fans have been eagerly awaiting for almost three decades has arrived. Dodger Stadium will play host to the World Series, with first pitch at 5:09 this evening.
Los Angeles announced it’s World Series roster earlier this morning, and there were two notable moves: Corey Seager and Brandon McCarthy were added, while Curtis Granderson and Kyle Farmer have been removed.
It will be a big boost to the team to have the reigning NL Rookie of the Year in the lineup after missing the NLCS with a lower back sprain. He will make the start and bat sixth. Utility infielder Charlie Culberson played well in relief of Seager, adding to the options should Seager’s black flare up again.
The Dodgers opted to stick with Joc Pederson as the fifth outfielder, rendering Curtis Granderson obsolete and the former New York Met will sit out the World Series. Granderson’s struggles at the plate during the postseason have been well documented.
Brandon McCarthy is an interesting addition to the pitchers, as he missed most of the second half of the season. He could be used in a similar bullpen role as Kenta Maeda, but bit remains to be seen exactly what his role will be in the World Series with the bullpen in such a groove.
The Game 1 starting lineup, according to Dodgers beat reporter David Vassegh:
Chris Taylor CF
Justin Turner 3B
Cody Bellinger 1B
Yasiel Puig RF
Enrique Hernández LF
Corey Seager SS
Forsythe 2B
Austin Barnes C
Clayton Kershaw P
