Foothill League Girls Flag Football: Hart Remains On Top

The Hart girls’ flag football team continues to lead the Foothill League with a 9-1 league record, followed closely by West Ranch at 8-1.

With the regular season wrapping up in less than a month, every game from here on out carries significant playoff implications.

Let’s take a look at each team’s upcoming league matchups:

Hart (13-4, 9-1) at Golden Valley (6-8, 3-7)

Game Time: Monday, 6:30 p.m.

The reigning Foothill League champions will face Golden Valley on Monday night. The Grizzlies come into the matchup riding a four-game win streak and looking to even the season series after a 26-0 loss to Hart earlier this season.

Hart has momentum of its own, having won four of its last five games. Offensively, the Hawks are stacked. Jessica Gutierrez leads the receiving corps with 783 yards, followed by Nathalia Raio with 637 and Natalie Williams with 509.

Quarterback Hannah Cook has been a major factor this season, throwing for 1,927 yards and 21 touchdowns.

Golden Valley will need a strong start and a full-team effort to pull off the upset.

West Ranch (10-2, 8-1) at Saugus (5-9, 3-7)

Game Time: Monday, 6:30 p.m.

West Ranch, currently in second place, already holds a 20-8 win over Saugus from earlier in the season and will look to stay on Hart’s heels in the standings.

The Wildcats’ defense has been a key strength, with Leila Barton and Olivia Esparza combining for 19 sacks. In the secondary, Rachelle Clark leads the team with eight interceptions, contributing to a total of 24 team interceptions.

Before hosting West Ranch, Saugus will face Chatsworth in a non-league matchup on Thursday at 3 p.m.

Vasquez (9-9, 5-5) at Canyon (2-8, 2-7)

Game Time: Monday, 3:30 p.m.

Both teams enter this matchup looking to end losing streaks, five for Canyon and two for Vasquez.

The stakes are higher for Vasquez, who currently sits in third place in the Foothill League. A loss could drop them in the standings and put their playoff hopes at risk.

Castaic (6-7, 5-5) at Valencia (6-12-1, 4-6)

Game Time: Monday, 6:30 p.m.

In their inaugural season, Castaic has impressed and currently holds fourth place in the league.

Quarterback Larkin Smith has thrown for 747 yards, with Pyper Ormes leading the team in receiving with 285 yards and four touchdowns. On the ground, Sarah Khalil has rushed for 410 of the team’s 1,149 total rushing yards.

Before their league showdown, both teams have non-league games. Castaic will take on an undefeated Eagle Rock team Saturday at 11:30 a.m., while Valencia faces Simi Valley on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

As the playoff picture begins to take shape, every snap matters. Expect tight matchups and high stakes as the Foothill League enters its final stretch.
