After a historic season that saw Golden Valley capture its first Foothill League championship in more than a decade and advance to the CIF-SS quarterfinalS, the program has officially named Miguel Mayorga as its new Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach.

“Mayorga has been an integral part of the Golden Valley basketball program over the past two seasons, serving as JV Head Coach and Varsity Assistant,” stated a social media post by Golden Valley basketball.

Mayorga has played a key role in helping guide the Grizzlies through one of the most successful periods in program history, contributing to both a league title and a strong postseason push.

At the junior varsity level, he led Golden Valley to a dominant 23-2 overall record while finishing a perfect 12-0 in league play to secure a championship.

At just 24 years old, Mayorga becomes the youngest head varsity basketball coach in Foothill League history.

Despite his young age, he brings seven years of coaching experience to the position. He began coaching AAU basketball at 17 and has spent the last three years helping shape the Golden Valley program, focusing on player development and team growth.

Beyond the high school level, Mayorga has also earned recognition in the grassroots basketball scene as the Director of SCP Select, where he has coached and developed high-level talent from across the region.

“This is a special opportunity, and I’m grateful to represent Golden Valley as the next head coach,” said Mayorga in a social media post. “This program is built on relationships, discipline, and toughness. We will continue to build a culture that holds our players to a high standard — on the court, in the classroom, and in the community. Our goal is to compete for championships while developing young men the right way.”
