Golden Valley, Canyon, Last Remaining Santa Clarita Boys Teams In CIF-SS Playoffs

The CIF-Southern Section quarterfinals are approaching, and only two Santa Clarita Valley boys basketball programs remain: Foothill League champion Golden Valley and Canyon, which entered the postseason as an at-large selection.

Although the two teams took different paths to the playoffs, they now find themselves in the same position, preparing for quarterfinal matchups in their respective divisions.

Golden Valley advanced in the Division 3 bracket with a 61-54 win over Los Altos. Alex Villela led the Grizzlies with 18 points and seven rebounds, while Donavan Webb added 15 points, five rebounds and four steals.

With the victory, Golden Valley will host Warren High School in its first home game of the postseason. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Canyon secured its spot with a 60-52 second-round win over Anaheim in the Division 7 bracket. Isaac Yuhico paced the Cowboys with 24 points, and Josiah Toledo contributed 15.

Canyon will now host Vista del Lago in the quarterfinals on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Saugus and Trinity Classical Academy saw their seasons come to an end in the second round of their respective games. In the loss, Saugus senior Braydon Harmon reached a milestone, scoring his 1,000th career point just before halftime.
