Two Santa Clarita Athletes Receive CIF Softball Honors

Two Santa Clarita athletes were selected to the All California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Southern Section (SS) team for softball on Thursday.

Hart High School’s Kate Penberthy and Valencia High School catcher Addison Snyder were both placed on the Division 2 All-CIF SS team.

Penberthy was also named MVP for the Foothill League.

“She works on her own all the time,” said Hart Head Coach Stephen Calendo. “She puts a lot of extra work in the weight room and in the cages.”

In her senior campaign, Penberthy had the best batting average in the league with a .529 average and the best on-base percentage with .606.

Penberthy finished third in the league for runs with 23 and Snyder in fourth place with 23 runs of her own.

Snyder led the league with nine home runs, and Penberthy trailed with eight home runs.

“Addison is one of the most competitive players I’ve had the pleasure of coaching. She is the true epitome of the ‘Mamba Mentality’, her desire to win is consuming and she puts in the necessary work in order to be the best on the field,” said Valencia Head Coach Sean Pollard.

Snyder also led the league in RBIs with a total of 33.

“Addi’s competitiveness is contagious. In that she works so hard, she does push and expects her teammates to do likewise,” said Pollard.“The byproduct of this is evident in our success this year, especially our Foothill League Championship. Addi’s leadership was a huge reason for this, especially since we were such a young team.”
