KHTS Game Of The Week Preview: West Ranch vs Hart

The KHTS high school football Game of the Week broadcast brings you West Ranch vs Hart at College of the Canyons, tonight. The Vargo Physical Therapy Pregame show begins at 7:15 with kickoff at 7:30.

When a team is reaches a program-first mark, everything it does thereafter is heightened. The pressure and the moments are and feel greater.

That’s where the 8-0 West Ranch Wildcats now find themselves. From here on out in the 2018 season, each game is the biggest game the school has ever had. They passed their first test last week, overcoming a 14-0 first half deficit to shock the Saugus Centurions as time expired in regulation.

Tonight, West Ranch faces the Hart Indians searching for its first win over the program since its first win (37-21 in 2010). Quite frankly, the Wildcats have hardly given the Indians a game in the past few seasons–Hart has outscored WR by a whopping 125-20 margin the last three seasons.

But head coach Chris Varner would have you know that this is not the same ole West Ranch. It’s a team that has proven it can play with everyone in the Foothill League, winning blowouts the first two weeks over Canyon and Golden Valley, and holding Saugus to 14 points and a big 0 in the second half last week.

Hart will have heard all week the hype regarding their opponent, all the while knowing a big win would put them back in great position for a top-2 finish in League and playoff berth. This is, for all intents and purposes, a playoff game.

The Indians comes into this game after their most complete performance of the season in a 59-7 rout of Canyon last week, and through three weeks of the Foothill League season the Indians have emerged with the top passing attack. Junior quarterback Zach Johnson leads the league in every major statistical category, and has found a reliable target in Drew Munoz with Jacob Montes and others missing time due to injury.

It will be imperative they control the time of possession tonight to keep their defense on the sideline and the ball away from Player of the Year candidate Ryan Camacho. Camacho has been sensational this season, breaking several West Ranch rushing records with a couple more in sight. His 21 rushing touchdowns equal the next three players combined, and 26 total touchdowns are the top mark in the Foothill League.

Hart’s Achilles’ heel this year has been its run defense. Can it to hold up against the best the Foothill League has to offer?
