L.A. Dodgers Visiting Santa Clarita To Thank Saugus High Shooting First Responders

Players from the Los Angeles Dodgers are expected to visit Santa Clarita on Friday for a lunch thanking first responders from November’s Saugus High shooting.

The Dodgers kicked off their 17th annual community service week on Monday. The event is officially titled the “Dodger Love L.A. Community Service Tour, presented by Bank of America,” and is focused on showing gratitude to public servants, first responders, law enforcement and military.

The annual community service event includes a number of different activities throughout the week in addition to their scheduled visit to Santa Clarita.

Monday, the team kicked off the week of service, when Dodgers alumni participated in a beautification project at Orville Wright Middle School STEAM Magnet in Westchester.

On Tuesday, Fernando Valenzuela, Dodgers pitcher and current Spanish language color commentator, visited Metro Bus drivers around Los Angeles. Meanwhile, Alex Verdugo, Matt Beaty and Bank of America volunteers hosted a birthday party for children living on Skid Row, according to the team.

Local students from the Girls Academic Leadership Academy are expected to attend a clinic on STEM careers in baseball hosted by members of the Dodgers Baseball Research and Development Department and Bank of America on Wednesday.

In addition, Wednesday is also expected to feature appearances by Joc Pederson and Matt Beaty at the Dodgers Pet Family Photo Day at West Hollywood Park, while Justin Turner makes a surprise visit to a WWII combat veteran.

Thursday, many officials from the Dodgers organization, from Club President Andrew Friedman and Manager Dave Roberts to players, staff and broadcasters, are expected to join Bank of America volunteers for a day of service with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles to build playhouses for underserved children.

The annual week of service is scheduled through Jan. 28, which concludes with a visit from National League Most Valuable Player award winner Cody Bellinger to members of the Los Angeles Police Department.
