Eighteen straight wins. Undefeated Heritage League season. CIF Southern Section Division 5AAA champs. CIF State Southern Regional champs. And, finally, kings of California in Division 5–State Champions.

It’s hard to believe the 2017/18 Santa Clarita Christian boys basketball team started the season 2-8. Because what head coach James Mosley and his team pulled off in the last three months is nothing short of prep greatness.

The Cardinals lost just one time since the start of the 2018 calendar year. They scored signature wins over Valencia and Valley Torah (twice) in the regular season, Van Nuys in the SoCal regional final, and capped it off with Saturday’s 78-66 win over Argonaut in Sacramento.

Jordan Starr and Justin Collins led the Cardinals with 21 points apiece.

Starr earned a double-double with 10 assists to go along with seven boards. The 6’7″ senior playmaker finishes his lone season checking off all the possible team accomplishments. All-CIF will be added to his list of personal accomplishments shortly, along with some of his teammates, undoubtedly.

What’s scary about this Cardinals team? They likely return four starters in Collins, 6’7″ power forward Kaleb Lowery, younger Starr brother Caden, and explosive freshman guard Noah Veluzat.

Though they’ll move up a division or two in the CIF Southern Section, that is a dangerous team in 2018/19.

For now, congratulations to the SCCS Cardinals, the CIF Division V state champs!
