Santa Clarita Dodger Fans React To L.A. City Council Resolution To Transfer Titles

The Los Angeles City Council is expected to vote this week on a resolution to call on Major League Baseball (MLB) officials to recall the World Series championship trophies presented to the Houston Astros in 2017 and the Boston Red Sox in 2018 and present them to the Dodgers, according to reporting by the Los Angeles Times.

The vote comes in the wake of the sign-stealing cheating scandal that has rocked the MLB.

Sign-stealing involves decoding the opposing team’s pitching signs and relaying that information to batters to improve their offensive performance.

The gesture is expected to be largely symbolic, as there would be nothing legally binding the MLB to abide by the request, but it speaks to the frustration that Dodgers fans across southern California are plagued with as revelations continue to emerge about the Dodgers’ championship losses.

“We want what’s deserved for our city,” said Santa Clarita Dodger fan Jeff Waterman. “Our team played by the rules and won seven division championships in a row only to fall to teams that cheated in the World Series.”

The league has already conducted their investigation of the Astros and found them guilty of sign-stealing during their 2017 season in which they clinched the title from the Dodgers in a World Series that went to seven games.

As punishment for the cheating, the Astros were fined $5 million and forced to forfeit first and second-round draft selections in the 2020 and 2021 MLB Drafts. Additionally, Astros manager AJ Hinch and general manager Jeff Lunhow each received a one-year suspension.

Lunhow accepted responsibility for the violations that occurred under his regime but maintains that he was unaware of the scheme.

One of the people most significantly implicated in the development of the scheme is former Astros bench coach Alex Cora, who went on to join the Boston Red Sox as their manager for the 2018 season.

The Red Sox are now under investigation for similar accusations of sign-stealing during their 2018 season, which again ended with a World Series championship for the accused at the hands of the Dodgers, who were bested in five games.

As of Thursday, the Red Sox remain under investigation by the MLB, but the Red Sox and Cora “mutually agreed to part ways” on Tuesday according to a release from the team.

“The Commissioner of the MLB needs to take firm actions to clean up the league or he risks losing fans and the integrity of baseball as a whole,” Waterman said. “Dodger fans should all feel wronged and we want justice.”

The resolution was introduced to the city council by Councilman Gil Cedillo, whose district includes Dodger Stadium.

There is no firm date that the resolution is expected to come up for a vote as of Thursday.

  1. Geeze, I have been a Dodgers fan for 60 years and can’t think of even one baseball player/fan that would take a bit of satisfaction in this silly vote. Also, since it has no binding features, WTHeck is this resolution all about. It’s just another way to show the weaknesses that are inherent with a generation of “fairness and feel good at all costs” mentality. So, we got screwed. Unfair in life happens all the time, and a resolution that says “unfair” is now “Not unfair”means less than nothing.

  2. They should do their jobs and find a solution for homelessness and high taxes.

  3. While at it, how about if MLB awards the 1951 National League pennant to the Dodgers insofar as it has been proven that the Giants were cheating by sign stealing that season (including during the playoff series and including when Branca came in to pitch to Thompson in the final game).

  4. You’ll wish you can take a lap at 92 Mark A.
