As the high school baseball season heads into its final stretch, teams across Santa Clarita are battling for positions in their respective leagues. West Ranch remains on top in the Foothill League, while Trinity Classical Academy continues to push for the lead in the Heritage League.
West Ranch (13-6, 7-1) vs Camarillo (5-12, 2-4)
West Ranch is on a three-game winning streak and recently kicked off a five-game non-league series with a 5-2 victory over Highland on Saturday. Next up, they’ll host Camarillo for a Tuesday afternoon matchup.
The Scorpions are on a three-game losing streak and have struggled offensively this season. They’ve only scored 35 runs—well below the national average, according to MaxPreps.
Despite collecting hits at an above-average rate, their inability to convert those into runs has limited their success.
West Ranch pitcher Hunter Manning has been a consistent force on the mound, with 49 strikeouts across 31.1 innings and 124 batters faced.
With a solid defense backing him, Manning and the Wildcats are in position for a strong outing against an underperforming Camarillo lineup. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Castaic (13-7, 4-2) at Hart (9-7, 4-1)
Castaic and Hart begin their series on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m., in a matchup with major implications for the Foothill League standings. Hart currently holds second place, just ahead of Castaic in third.
The last meeting between these two programs came last year when Castaic swept Hart—who would go on to win the CIF Division 2 title. This season, both teams have excelled at the plate, each surpassing 100 total runs. On the mound, Castaic’s pitchers have racked up 120 strikeouts, while Hart’s staff has notched 97.
With both teams evenly matched, this series could play a pivotal role in shaping the league’s final standings.
Saugus (12-7, 4-3) vs Chatsworth (9-8-1, 5-4)
Saugus enters Monday’s game against Chatsworth with momentum, having won three of their last four games. They come off a dominant 17-4 victory over Oakwood, where nearly the entire lineup crossed the plate.
Matthew Carta, Justin Barrett, Banning Sheff, and Jason “JD” Lawless each scored twice in the game.
Carta and Kaden Haag also added stolen bases. Defensively, the Centurions played a clean game with zero errors. Chatsworth is currently on a two-game losing streak, and Saugus will look to extend that on Monday afternoon.
Golden Valley (8-9, 2-4) vs Hueneme (11-7, 6-2)
Golden Valley has had a strong showing in April, going 4-1 so far this month. Their only recent loss came against Trinity Classical Academy. Despite a challenging season overall, the Grizzlies are within reach of a .500 record.
A win over Hueneme on Monday at 3:30 p.m. would bring them to that mark. Golden Valley has put up 74 runs this season, with Bryce Gayles and Tyler Do leading the way offensively. With their recent momentum, the Grizzlies are hoping to make a late-season push.
Valencia (5-12, 2-6) vs Canyon (2-15, 0-6)
Both Valencia and Canyon are looking to turn things around as they enter the final weeks of the season. Valencia has lost five straight games, while Canyon is trying to end a 10-game losing streak.
Despite their records, Valencia has scored 72 runs on the season—almost double Canyon’s 37.
Monday’s game, set for 3:15 p.m., presents an opportunity for one of these teams to break their losing streak and build some late-season momentum.
Trinity (13-1, 4-0) at Faith Baptist (4-6, 2-2)
Trinity Classical Academy continues its dominant run with an 11-game win streak and only one loss on the season. However, the Knights still trail Vasquez in the Heritage League standings, as Vasquez holds a perfect 6-0 league record.
Trinity’s offensive firepower has been led by Luke Backes, who tops the league with two home runs, and Jordan Lovelace, who has scored a league-best 19 runs.
Isaac Saroughian has been one of the team’s most complete players, leading in on-base percentage (.606) and ranking second in both slugging and batting average. Trinity visits Faith Baptist on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m., looking to keep their streak alive and tighten the race for the league title.
Santa Clarita Christian School (5-8, 2-6) at Milken (9-7, 2-2)
Santa Clarita Christian School rounds out this week’s local matchups with a Heritage League game against Milken on Wednesday at 3 p.m. The Cardinals have struggled this season but have shown signs of improvement in their last two games, both wins over Faith Baptist by scores of 8-5 and 10-0.
SCCS will need to continue that level of play if they hope to compete against a solid Milken squad. With a tough challenge ahead, the Cardinals aim to build on their recent success and finish the season strong.
