Santa Clarita Sports Report – April 12, 2017

Santa Clarita Sports Report, April 12, 2017. This is your place for Santa Clarita’s 2016/17 Foothill League spring sports. Find all the latest news and updates on your hometown schools here as they compete in the Foothill League, Heritage League, Western State Conference and GSAC.

According to SBNation, the Oakland (and soon-to-be- Las Vegas) Raiders are the only team in the NFL with no arrested players in the past three years.

Santa Clarita High School Baseball

Foothill League baseball is back in action today across Santa Clarita. First pitch for all three games is at 3:30.

7 Valencia (13-5, 4-1) vs Hart (11-6, 3-2)

Valencia jumped back into the Division 1 top ten this week after falling out of it the previous two weeks, thanks to the Ryan Lemmon Invitational championship win over West Ranch.

Hart desperately needs a signature win to get back on track and snap the current three-game slide.

Golden Valley (6-9. 1-4) vs 9 West Ranch (12-5, 5-0)

Golden Valley had a strong showing in Irvine last week and will try to build on the semifinal run in the Ryan Lemmon tourney.

The West Ranch bats have picked up in the lat couple weeks, and if sophomores Jovan Camacho and Garrett Monheim continue to light it up and the plate, the Wildcats will stay atop the Foothill League.

Santa Clarita High School Boys Volleyball

Wednesday’s Foothill League schedule (first serve at 5:30):

West Ranch (9-3, 3-0) vs Canyon (2-9, 1-2)

First-place West Ranch goes for its fourth win in a row tonight.

Hart (5-4, 1-2) vs Saugus (7-7, 2-1)

Hart has won 15 sets and lost 15 sets this season. That’s a pretty even team, for those keeping score at home.

Golden Valley (13-7, 0-3) vs Valencia (7-12, 2-1)

The Grizzlies started the season 13-4, but have slumped with three straight losses and a disappointing start to the season. Things would turn quickly with a big win at Valencia.

TMU Baseball

The Mustangs stayed hot at the plate, scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh to take a 9-7 lead (and eventual win by that score) after they squandered a four-run lead in the top of the inning.

Matt Janes hit a home run in the victory. TMU is now 24-18 and on a six-game winning streak.

COC Athletics

COC (21-10) edged Merced, 4-3, in the opening game of the Hancock Spring Classic up in Santa Maria, CA.

Next up is Cypress College today and East LA Thursday.

Cougars Softball continued its uneven spell over the last two weeks with double-header losses of 7-2 and 10-3 to Antelope Valley at home, Tuesday. The Cougars are 6-4 in their last ten games.

Los Angeles Dodgers

Brandon McCarthy (1-0) is on the mound tonight for the Dodgers (4-4) in the second game of their series in Chicago. John Lackey will take the mound for the Cubs.

Justin Turner is off to a good, hitting .357 after the first week yet still looking for his first home run.

First pitch is at 5:05 and don’t miss any of the action, which can be heard on your hometown station, KHTS.

Los Angeles Lakers

It was a special night for Lakers fans and basketball fans alike, as the artist formerly known as Ron Artest started for the Lakers against the Pelicans in what is likely his last game action of an excellent career.

Metta World Peace played 25 minutes and scored 17 points on 7-for-17 shooting adding four steals and four rebounds.

The Lakers are up in Oakland for the regular season finale against the Warriors. It will be the last game played at Oracle Arena. Tip-off is at 7:30.
