Girls Basketball CIF Division II State Championships

11 Bakersfield 40

6 Valencia 59

The Vikings won their eighth consecutive game, seven of which by double digits; Valencia dominated Bakersfield from start to finish and at one point in the fourth quarter the lead was 27 points. Next up for head coach Jerry Mike’s team is the 3-seeded Chaminade Eagles who defeated Westview 74-44 in the first round.

–

9 Bishop Montgomery 50

8 Canyon 56

The Cowboys shrugged off their CIF-SS Championship game loss to Valencia by toppling Bishop Montgomery for the State tournament first round victory, something they were unable to do last year in an opening round exit. Canyon has its hands full on the road Saturday night against Orangewood Academy, the top seed in SoCal.

Boys Soccer CIF Division IV SoCal Regionals

1 Citrus Hill (22-4-2) vs 5 Saugus (18-7-4)

The Centurions face the No. 1 seed in southern California in the Semifinals. The winner will play the winner of Indian Springs/Community Charter in the Regional Championship game on Saturday. Bellflower, the team that defeated Saugus in the CIF-SS Division IV final, was upset in the first round.

Santa Clarita High School Baseball

The Golden Valley Grizzlies showed well in the SoCal Invitational, going 3-2 in the tournament after yesterday’s 6-4 win over Campbell Hall. Seth Ferrari and Eddie Rodriguez each hit two doubles while sophomore David Hurtado earned the win.

Thursday’s schedule:

Canyon (0-3)

Warren (3-0)

Canyon is looking for its first win when the Cowboys travel to undefeated Warren Thursday night. First pitch is at 7 pm.

–

Trinity (1-2)

St. Monica (1-4)

The Knights have 12 days off between this game and their next, meaning losing would leave a bad taste for a while.
