Santa Clarita Sports Report – September 20, 2017

Santa Clarita High School Volleyball

Tuesday’s scores:

Foothill League

Valencia 2

Hart 3

The Indians took down the Vikings at home in a five-set thriller. Hart rallied after falling 25-15 in game four to take the fifth 15-11. It was their first league win over Valencia since 2014.

–

Golden Valley 0

West Ranch 3

The Wildcats have won six out of their last seven games and are 1-1 in league play.

–

Canyon 0

Saugus 3

Caitlin Liebe had 14 kills as the Centurions routed the Cowboys to move to 2-0 in league play.

–

Heritage League

Trinity 3

Lancaster Baptist 0

The Knights shrugged off a rough Saturday in the Village Christian Tournament for a sweep to move to 2-1 in league play.

TMU Athletics

TMU Volleyball is on a four-game winning streak on Bross Court after Tuesday’s 3-1 win over Antelope Valley, lifting the Mustangs record to 6-7 and 2-1 in GSAC play. A big conference road trip looms this later this week with Menlo on Friday and William Jessup Saturday.

COC Athletics

Both Cougars soccer teams were in action, Tuesday.

The men’s team lost its third consecutive match, this time to visiting Fresno, 2-1. Isaac Dominguez scored in the 89th minute for COC’s only goal. Canyons (2-5) has a week before traveling to Santa Barbara next Tuesday, September 26.

COC women’s soccer shrugged off last week’s first loss of the season at Chaffey to defeat LA Valley, 3-1, with all of the scoring coming in a wild first half. Kylia Bradford scored a brace and has four goals and one assist through seven games for the 6-1 Cougars. They’ll head to Santa Barbara along with the men next Tuesday.

Los Angeles Dodgers

It’s been an up-and-down middle of September for the Dodgers. Los Angeles went on a four-game winning streak last week only to suffer three losses in a row this week.

And, well, it’s been a mostly down month for beleagured reliever Pedro Baez. Baez took the loss in yesterday’s 6-2 defeat in Philadelphia, allowing four earned runs in two-thirds inning of work. According to Dodgers Radio, Baez has a 22.50 ERA in the month of September.

All in all, Wednesday could be a banner day for the Dodgers, whose magic number is down to 2. If they can pull out a win, combined with a Diamondbacks loss they will capture the NL West crown.

Alex Wood looks to shut down the Phillies, with first pitch coming at 4:05 on your Dodgers station, KHTS.
